Out of my Mind By: Sharon Draper


Summary:
This is a heartwarming and heart-wrenching book about a little girl who is a quadriplegic.  We follow her as she explains how she can handle all tasks in her mind but just does not have a way to express her feelings and thoughts.  She has the chance of a lifetime when she is awarded a computer made just for her.  Will being able to communicate change her life for the better?

  2. 1. Yes so she can help the other people on the wiz kids team so that way they can win and because she is ecstremly smart and she knows how to do things on her own and she can say the answers on her computer instead of righting with her hands.

    2. Hurt her because if theres a tornado she needs the computer to talk in class and tell her friends and teacher whats going on.

  4. 1. I would because she is extremly smart but if my quiz team didn't tell her about breakfeast I would. And leting her be on the team will make me feel good and people will talk to her more .

    2.It will continue to help her .It will continue to help her because it can talk to the people she wants to talk to and there is a volume button so she can turn her volume up and yell and sceam like a normal kid.plus on the quiz team she can type her answer a,b,c or d

  5. 1. Yes!Becuase I think she is relly smart and talinted and this is relly inportent to her.Just becuase she is difricet dose not mean she is not smart. 2.I think it will still help her it helps her communicate.

  14. I love how so many of you would want Melody to be on your team! I am proud that you make that choice. I noticed that some of you used words like, "Stupid and Dumb", in your comment. I know that these words appeared in the book a lot but in our daily conversations let's remember how they made Melody feel and let's try not to use them. I love your input! Keep reading!

  15. i loved this book. it made me cry-yeah,im sensitive. i cant believe how mean people can be to special needs kids. THIS BOOK WILL TOUCH YOUR HEART! ITS GRIPPING :P

  16. This book so touching. I have leared after i read this book that we cant make fun of the special needs kids because thay are normal kids like us. This book will make you cry, its soo touching! It grbs you right from the begging!!

  34. this book just broke my heart.how her sisster gets run over.they dont take melody to the quiz bowl team.melody is somebody people can look up too.even when melody was down she never gave up.

  37. Yes I would definetally pick her for my debate team because it is whats on the inside that counts. Definentally she will be the next Stephen Hawking but as a kid. The end of this book breaks my heart when Melody gets left behind and Penny accidentally gets ran over by her mom. HEARTBREAKING!!!!!!!!!!
